A budding engineer at QE is celebrating after having secured a place on an exciting degree apprenticeship programme. Abbie Pocklington, from Bedale, North Yorkshire, has landed a degree apprenticeship with UK engineering firm JBA Consulting through which she’ll gain a degree in Civil Engineering at Teesside University. Achieving two A grades in A Level Business and PE, and a Distinction* in Level 3 Extended Certificate in Applied Science, Abbie said: ‘I am thrilled with my results and very excited to start my degree apprenticeship programme.’
The 18-year-old has worked part-time alongside her studies, for the Bedale-based engineering firm Coxon Brothers for the last three years. Abbie added: ‘Civil engineering is traditionally a male-dominated industry, but I want to beat the stereotypes and hopefully, one day, inspire other women to get involved in an industry that’s full of great career options.’ QE, one of the region’s leading sixth form colleges offering over 40 subject choices to its 2,000-strong student body, has seen an increasing number of second-year students opting to apply for degree apprenticeship programmes, with support from QE Job Coach Emma Hurry.

Abbie’s fantastic A Level grades support her on her journey into the engineering sector and we wish her all the best in her future career.’
