Connor Fox, who is in his second year at QE, is an elected member of the UK Youth Parliament (MYP) in Central North Yorkshire. This year, Connor has spent his time canvassing across the region in support of the Youth Parliament and British Youth Council key pledges, in particular food poverty and holiday hunger. His work as a Member of Youth Parliament has seen him tirelessly engage with local government and service providers within Central North Yorkshire representing the views of the young adults in the region.
Connor studies Modern History, Law and Politics, and recently joined 369 other MYPs from across the UK, Crown Dependencies and UK Overseas Territories for their 12th sitting in the House of Commons Chamber. The day’s sessions were chaired by the Commons speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP and Deputy Speaker Dame Rosie Winterton MP. Connor and his fellow MYPs were engaged in debates advocating for free school meals for all in The Food for Learning bill, prioritising the need for good nutrition for learning and food security for young people.
His work has ranged from involvement in educational round tables with Baroness Barran Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the DofE, leading on debates in local schools, carrying out surveys and engagement with young adults and also engagement with local Members of Parliament within North Yorkshire and County Durham, Peter Gibson MP for Darlington and Kevin Hollinrake MP for Thirsk and Malton.
