Psychology students were able to take part in a full day workshop entitled “Brain Day: Adventures in Neuroscience” with Dr Guy Sutton. He is the managing director of Medical Biology Interactive and works as a lecturer in neuroscience with various universities and organisations. The workshop aims to take students beyond A-level material and into degree-level concepts and research. It is fast-paced and introduces students to the very latest studies, providing an insight into what is current and exciting in brain research. “Brain Day” is intended to be inspirational, exciting and challenging. The session also includes the dissection of a sheep brain.
Psychology student Babi Bartliff commented ‘I think that brain day was a great insight into the one aspect of university and helped me understand the field of work I’d like to go into.’
Poppy Cross added ‘I really enjoyed participating in brain day. I found it extremely interesting and learnt a lot during it. It has influenced my career path choices as I was very interested in the topics we discussed.’
Matilda Candle concluded ‘The level of detail covered was really interesting as it helped understand the reality of the brain and how the smallest things can affect it, I enjoyed seeing the brain and how it all works together. The crime and the future brain topics were my favourite – the case studies were weird but interesting. For example I hadn’t realised how advanced AI actually was!’
